So, I'll save you the suspense...I didn't run this morning.
And no, I don't have a stellar excuse either.
I fell asleep on the couch last night in the midst of a Law and Order: SVU marathon with Detective Olivia Benson's voice lulling me to sleep. Around 2 AM, I was awakened by Cameron's knobby elbow digging into my ribcage as she made herself more comfortable, but I just couldn't pry myself off the couch - I didn't have the heart to make Cam go sleep in her crate at that point either (she's a good snuggler). When my alarm went off, I knocked the phone off my coffee table and decided to sleep another hour.
It was supposed to be raining this morning, I swear. I'd planned on using that as an excuse until I took Cameron outside, and though the sky looked threatening, there was no rain. Oh well. I promise I'm going to do my five miles after Arabic class tonight!
When I don't start my day with a run, it seems like everything is just a little off-center. I missed the 6:50 AM shuttle to Metro, the Yellow line train was pulling away by the time I reached the escalator and I realized on the platform that my fly was unzipped...how embarrassing!!! I thought my day was going badly until I looked at the man beside me on the station platform.
As he hurriedly tucked his shirt into his pants revealing his red and white polka dot boxers (I swear I wasn't looking), the thought occurred to me that this individual looked vaguely familiar. It wasn't until he turned to me that I realized he had hit on me at a bar a few weeks ago - the rodent-like facial features, receding hairline, diminuitive size...I would have recognized him anywhere! But the most memorable thing about Polka Dot was his attitude.
"Do I smell like booze?" he asked, as he turned to me on the platform.
The stench of last night's gin was heavy on his breath, and I quickly nodded and turned away.
"Shit, I'm gonna get fired," he said.
At that time, the doors to the next Yellow line train opened saving me, and I hopped aboard, leaving Polka Dot standing unkempt and hungover on the platform. And I thought my day began a little off-center.
Happy running!
How about if you do a small jog at lunch time? Do you have a change of clothes? I only suggest that because it's SO EASY to end up not doing the day's workout if you push it back to the end of the day (when all you want to do is relax).
ReplyDeleteSo, did you work out today? I did: I slaved over a frickin' hot computer for ten hours, then I assembled an elliptical trainer from scratch. Then I tried it out, discovered after about a minute that it was giving me a hell of a workout, and decided to stop and read the damn instructions before I hurt myself. I hope you appreciate the moral support here. :)
