5:00 AM

As I pulled myself from my warm bed this morning, two ideas popped into my head:  1.  Why the hell am I up at 5:00 AM to run?  2.  I should write a blog chronicling my running adventures while training for my 2nd marathon!  The latter thought played in the back of my mind as I was pounding out my mandatory three miles on the sidewalks of Arlington, and when I arrived home to begin the whirlwind of my morning routine, my mind was made up...I was going to author a blog!

Roughly two months ago, I was at an indie rock show at a hole-in-the-wall bar when I recieved a text from one of my best friends, Shawna (shout-out to the girl that's causing this pain).  The text seemed innocent enough, "running the missoula marathon.  do it with me!"  I don't know if it was the Bear Republic Racer IPA I'd been drinking or the great music, but I responded almost instantaneously with, "sure.  why not?"  Now, I could think of a million reasons not to do it, but I'll throw this one into my favorite category:  It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time.

Don't get me wrong; I had an awesome time running the Baltimore Marathon two years ago, but I was working a less stressful job at the time and didn't have my cute, crazy lab puppy, Cameron, to occupy my free time.  Training 25-50 miles a week takes a lot of time and dedication, and I'm a little over two weeks in and already have dark circles under my eyes, chipped toenail polish and blisters on my heels!

The purpose of this blog is to keep me accountable and with my running every day (make sure I don't hit snooze) and share running/life lessons along the way.  I want to show that it IS possible to be a busy young professional and train for a marathon (and have a life somewhere in between running and work).

Happy running!
